Lava Stone, also known as Basalt, is a dark-colored, fine grained igneous (volcanic) rock formed from the rapid cooling of basaltic lava exposed at or very near the surface of the earth. Basalt underlines more of Earth’s surface than any other rock type. Most areas within the Earth’s ocean basins are underlain by basalt.
Lava Stone is strong enough to withstand high temperatures which makes it ideal for high fired glazes like with ceramic or porcelain tiles. There are a wide variety of standard colors however if you do not see the color you imagine, Customization is possible. Pyrolave is by special order only.
